Columbia Basin roundup: Moses Lake sweeps twin bill of Davis

YAKIMA — Moses Lake took two from Davis on Friday to salvage a series win 13-11 and 16-2.

Moses Lake trailed 4-1 in the fifth inning before a two-run double by Michael Harrington sparked a six-run frame. That big inning put the Chiefs ahead for good as both teams traded runs the final two innings.

Dominic Signorelli was 1-for-3 with three RBI and Austin Valdez added a two-run single.

A seven-run fifth inning allowed Moses Lake to enact the 10-run mercy rule in Game 2. Harrington, Jordan Rios, Evan McLean and Valdez drove in two runs each.

Rios pitched a complete game, allowing three hits with three strikeouts.

Warden 12-13, Columbia 1-0

WARDEN — Ryan Arredondo and J.R. Delgado each pitched a complete game and Warden swept Columbia 12-0 and 13-1.

Both games went five innings.

Ephrata 16-9, Prosser 3-2

PROSSER — Parker Ball had three RBI in the early game and Ephrata swept Prosser 16-3 and 9-2.

Gunnar Falstad pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing two hits and three unearned runs. Falstad also doubled and scored twice in the second game.

Zac Berryman and Falstad had two hits each in Game 2.

Othello 22-5, Wapato 1-4

WAPATO — Othello scored three runs in the top of the seventh of its late game against Wapato to rally and complete a sweep 22-5 and 5-4.

The Huskies broke open the first game with nine runs in the fourth inning.

Quincy 15-2, Grandview 3-1

QUINCY — Quincy climbed the CWAC standings with a pair of wins against Grandview 15-3 and 2-1.

Quincy is tied with Prosser for sixth place and the final district playoff spot.

Soap Lake 1-10, Tonasket 12-6

SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake maintained a grip on second place in the Central Washington 2B league with a split against Tonasket.

The Eagles lost the opener 12-1 and won the late game 10-6. Soap Lake trails Brewster by two games for the league lead.

Boys soccer

Eastmont 4, Moses Lake 1

EAST WENATCHEE — Missing four starters, Moses Lake could not contend on the road against Eastmont and lost 4-1.

Daniel Sinchuk scored Moses Lake’s lone goal.

The Chiefs were awarded a victory on March 21 due to the Wildcats using an ineligible player.

Othello 4, Quincy 2

QUINCY — Othello led 3-0 at halftime and put Quincy away 4-2.

Juan Tapia and Reese Jones recorded a goal and an assist each.

Tapia, Luis Gomez and Sebastian Ruiz all scored in the first half.

Ephrata 3, Wapato 0

WAPATO — Luis Rodriguez scored twice and Ephrata blanked Wapato 3-0.

Jason Silva opened the scoring for the Tigers who improved to 3-3 in the CWAC.

Softball

Quincy 19-15, Prosser 9-7

QUINCY — Quincy picked up two crucial wins against Prosser 19-9 and 15-7.

Both games ended in six innings.

Starting pitcher Kalysta Alvarez homered once in each game. Ivania Chavez had an inside-the-park home run in Game 2.

The two wins move Quincy into a tie for the final district playoff spot with Wapato.

Warden 12-16, Columbia 0-4

WARDEN — Warden rolled to its eighth consecutive victory, sweeping Columbia 12-0 and 16-4.

Jizelle Pruneda pitched both games and had 14 combined strikeouts.

Freshman slugger Jocelyn Chagoya homered in the first game and tripled twice in the second.

Amanda Contreras doubled twice in Game 1 and Bailey Whitney drove in seven total runs. Ashlyn Yamane was 3-for-4 with four RBI in the late game.

Selah 11-17, Ephrata 3-0

EPHRATA — Ephrata was swept by undefeated Selah 11-3 and 17-0.

Aliyah Derr, Kami Shannon and Paige Davis had one RBI each in the first game. Mikayla Wood pitched seven innings and struck out two.

Ephrata scattered three hits in Game 2. Selah’s Alysa Cousins drove in four runs.

Track and field

Nevarez wins javelin at Pasco Invitational

PASCO — Fresh off a record-setting day in Yakima, Draven Nevarez of Moses Lake launched a throw of 194 feet, 7 inches to win javelin at the Pasco Invitational.

Moses Lake senior Elly Johnson took third in the discus with a heave of 126 feet, 5 inches.

The Chiefs finished 25th and 35th in the boys’ and girls’ competition, respectively.

Othello girls second at K Valley Rally

KITTITAS — Othello won four events in the girls’ competition and finished second at the K Valley Rally.

Othello totaled 102.5 points, a distant second to Bridgeport’s 166.

Leslie Rodriguez (800), Lori Gomez (110 hurdles) and Giselle Barragan (pole vault) won their respective events. The 4x400 relay team of Kylie Ashton, Genecis Rodriguez, Gomez and Kayla Guzman also took first place.

The Othello boys finished sixth with 57.5 points. Kittitas was on top of the team standings with 143 points.

Big Bend sweeps Treasure Valley

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend did some work to get back into the NWAC playoff hunt with two wins against Treasure Valley 7-2 and 4-3.

The Vikings are in sixth place and three games out of the last playoff spot.

Ephrata’s Josh Kallstrom and Justin DeHoog both went deep in Game 1. Kallstrom had three RBI. Warden’s Tyson Yamane pitched 8 2/3 innings with five strikeouts.

Cody Banks hit a walk-off double to complete Big Bend’s rally in Game 2. The Vikings trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the ninth.
