OTHELLO — Director of Community Development Travis Goddard is resigning his position in Othello, having accepted an offer as the head of the planning department in Beaverton, Ore. His last day on the job is April 14. The move puts him quite a bit closer to his home roots in Vancouver, Wash.

Othello Mayor Shawn Logan, as well as each member of City Council and government at Monday’s Council meeting, agreed he will be sorely missed.

“I remember trying to convince Travis to move to Othello — told him it would change his life,” Logan said. “But in reality, his move changed all of our lives. We didn’t have a comprehensive plan before he arrived and thanks to Travis, we do now.”

Councilman Larry McCourtie said Goddard was a “bright light for the City of Othello.”

Logan credits Goddard for securing 13 separate grants for the City totaling $470,000 over a two-year period. The funding is being used to make capital improvements in Othello.
