Columbia Basin roundup: Big Bend splits with WVC

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend scored four runs in the seventh inning to win its opener against Wenatchee Valley 7-4.

The Knights would go on to win the late game 6-3 to avoid the sweep.

In Game 1, Wenatchee Valley led 4-3 after six innings. Justin DeHoog led Big Bend’s (2-8, 14-10) comeback with a three-run triple followed by an RBI double from Sam Glowicki.

Reliever Connor Grytdal picked up the win.

Wenatchee Valley benefited from late inning heroics in Game 2. The Knights led 4-3 before scoring two insurance runs in the eighth inning.

Seth Reisbeck drove in two runs for the Vikings.

Connell 3, Warden 2

CONNELL — Warden let a first-half lead get away and fell to league-leading Connell 3-2.

The Cougars led 2-1 in the first half behind goals from Jaimisen Harris and Osvaldo Dominguez.

“They’re at the top of the league so I was pleased with it,” head coach Cameron Black said. “We frustrated them.”

The Eagles tied the game just before halftime and scored the lone second-half goal.

Moses Lake boys dominate Eisenhower

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake boys tennis got back into the win column with a sweep of Eisenhower 7-0.

All matches were completed in straight sets except No. 2 singles in which Trenton Vance defeated Shohei Sato 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

In the girls’ competition, Eisenhower won two out of three doubles matches to edge Moses Lake 4-3.

In No. 1 doubles, Shamra Roylance and Sidney Robison won a three-hour marathon 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Ephrata slogs through Palouse Ridge Invite

PULLMAN — Ephrata dealt with adverse conditions and finished in the middle of the pack at the Palouse Ridge Invite.

Sean Couture was the low man with an 85 and the Tigers turned in a team score of 359.

Central Valley was first with a 312. Eisenhower’s Holden Backes, 73, was the medalist after a one-hole playoff with teammate Tyler Fitchett and Wenatchee’s Jerrod Bishop.

John Rawley (89), Jayce Moore (89), Cody Follett (107) and Gus O’Donnell (96) rounded out Ephrata’s scores.

Moses Lake trio solid at Pacso Girls Invite

PASCO — Moses Lake backed up a second-place showing at its home invitational with a trio of scores in the 90s at the Pasco Girls Invite.

Payton Erdmann shot 92, Charlie Sanislo shot 93 and Courtney Sanislo carded 97.

Track and field

Quincy splits CWAC dual meet

TOPPENISH — Quincy girls track and field split its CWAC dual meet at Toppenish.

The Jacks was comfortably over the host Wildcats 94-42 and lost to East Valley 107-38. In the boys’ competition, Quincy was edged by Toppenish 73-68 and fell to East Valley 91-54.

Tyson Thornton won the javelin, high jump and triple jump.

Bryn Heikes was first in the 800. Mashayla Schaapman and Avery Vanderveen won the shot put and javelin, respectively.
