Othello High School placed on lockdown

OTHELLO — Othello High School was placed on a brief lockdown Wednesday after a campus threat was allegedly made, according to the Othello School District’s Facebook page.

Students were not injured and the lockdown was lifted.

According to a letter to parents, school officials explained that the high school had received a voicemail Wednesday morning that stated there was a possible threat to the campus.

“Staff were immediately advised to go into lockdown. Restrooms and hallways were cleared, all doors were locked, there was an accounting for all students, and no one was allowed to enter or exit the building,” according to the parent letter. “We remained in lockdown until police identified the individuals responsible for the threat and made a determination that it was safe to resume normal school operations. Additionally, law enforcement was able to ascertain no weapons were on school campus or on the individuals identified as making the threat.”

Parents are asked to discuss the situation with their child and let school officials know if follow-up with school counselor is needed.
