Praise be to God, the creator of everything

I like catalogs! I love going to the mailbox just to see which of the many catalogs I receive has arrived that day.

Some of my catalogs are all about clothing and others offer a variety of strange and silly gadgets that I wouldn’t possible use in this lifetime.

I get horse catalogs, dog and cat catalogs, religious supply catalogs and even car parts catalogs. It drives my husband crazy because he is the one who has to haul them all out to the garbage when my catalog basket gets full.

I don’t order very much from these catalogs but I do like looking through and thinking about the items I find.

As I was perusing one of these yesterday, I came across a plaque with a saying that hit me like a ton of bricks. It said, “What if you woke up today with only the things that you thanked God for yesterday!”

I had to stop and think about that for a moment, and I realized that I would only have my family, my Royal City church congregation and my food because those where the only ones in my prayers yesterday.

I wouldn’t have a house, clothes (oh my!) a car or a job. All my physical possessions would be gone.

This was rather shocking because I had thought I was thanking my Creator for everything all the time! Apparently, I was wrong.

So I went to the scriptures, as I always do when I am puzzled, and I found this; Ephesians 5:20, “Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Everything we have in life comes from God who created our entire universe. Yes, we work hard to get our “stuff” but in the end, if God hadn’t created the things that make up that stuff, we wouldn’t be able to have it.

We also need to send these prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord who sacrificed his life on the cross for our sins so that we might spend eternity with our Creator. That alone deserves my prayers and praise.

I am going to buy that plaque. I need it hanging in my office as a reminder of all that God has blessed me with and all that I need to be lifting to God, in prayer, each day.

Praise be to God, the creator of everything!
