Othello’s best at 9-hole girls golf meet 73

OTHELLO — Rain cut short the Othello Invitational at the Othello Golf & Country Club, but it was still a showcase of the two best golfers in girls 2A golf.

East Valley’s Shelby Baum shot 2-over-par 37 on the first nine at the Othello Golf Club before the rains cut the tournament short. Ephrata’s Kennedy Peters, who finished second to Baum at the 2A state tournament last year, fired a 39.

Othello’s Edith Reyes had a 73 to lead the Huskies. The rest of the Huskie scores were Edith Reyes 73; Candyss Miller 79; Margarita Solorio 82; Taylor Taff 70; and Janey Zapata 93.

Team scores: 1. East Valley 191; 2. Ephrata 239; 3. Othello 304.

Azevedo leads Huskies in boys golf with 80

OTHELLO — Erick Azevedo shot 39 on the back nine at Black Rock Golf Course in Sunnyside to finish with a team-low round of 80 and lead the Othello boys to a third-place team score of 345 at the 22-team Greyhound Invitational March 20.

Other Huskie players to add to the team total includes Isaiah Garza 88, Chemi Cantu 89, Nathan Roosma 88 and Sam Azevedo 92. Hermiston, Ore., won the tournament with a team score of 334. East Valley was second at 337.

The boys play again at the Joe Lenburg Classic on Friday at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.
