DYW program set for April 15

MOSES LAKE — “Commotion at the Ocean” will the theme of the 2017 Distinguished Young Women of Moses Lake program. The program is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 15 at the Moses Lake High School theater, 803 East Sharon Ave.

Eight girls will compete for the title and scholarships, and a chance to compete in the state program in August. Participants are Brooklyn Knox, Morgan Tolley, Mariah Boston, Jana Osborne, Britni Copley, Sydney Kriete and Cora Bruneel. The winner of the state program goes on to compete at the national pageant.

The program is open to high school juniors. Contestants perform a routine highlighting their individual talents, answer an unscripted question and participate in a group fitness routine. All contestants are interviewed by the judges before the program, and the judges also review each girl’s scholastic record.

The winner and the first and second runners-up all receive scholarships. There are scholarship awards in some individual categories as well.

This will be the 35th year for the DYW program in Moses Lake, said program chair Bonnie Dorris. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from the contestants, and will be available at the door.
