OTHELLO – Seniors Cayleen Garza and Tanaya Andersen combined for 15 kills to lead the Othello Huskie volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over the Davis Pirates in their opener.

Outside hitter Garza added 13 digs to her eight kills. Middle blocker Andersen contributed seven kills and senior libero Allison Garza chipped in with 13 digs and several big serves at crucial times.

The teams battled for every point. Othello won the first game 25-21. The Pirates battled back to earn the second game victory, 26-24.

The Huskies exhibited a never-say-die attitude in the third game. The Huskies were within a single point of winning the game at 24-19, but the Pirates fought back to tie the score at 24-24.

Allison Garza blasted a serve the Pirates could not handle and followed that with an ace and the Huskies won the crucial third game 26-24.

“I loved the team’s hustle and how hard they played,” Huskie coach Steve Parris said.

The Huskies carried their momentum into the fourth game and cruised to a 25-15 game win.

Sophomore setter Macy Hampton put up 32 assists, and junior outside hitter Eryn Wolfs added six kills and four aces.

“Eryn played fantastic,” Parris said. “She did more than we expected she would for us.”

Othello will travel to Toppenish today for a CWAC match.
