Youth, hunters under 16 years of age and accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old, are in the spotlight this weekend. There are several hunts available to them, including: duck, goose, coot, Sept. 17 and 18; pheasant, quail and partridge: Sept. 17 and 18.

This is a chance for adults to assist a youth hunter during a special hunt. Take advantage of this opportunity.

Other upcoming hunts

Turkey

The early fall general turkey season: Sept. 17 through Oct. 31, in some Game Management Units, and Sept. 17 through Oct. 14 in other units. The bag limit is one turkey in some units and three in others. Rudy Lopez and I plan to hunt a unit where three turks are allowed; two must be beardless and one of either sex.

Pheasant

Sept. 19 through 23, five week days, is a pheasant hunt for hunters 65 years of age or older. Hunters with disabilities are also allowed to participate in this hunt here three rooster pheasants makes a daily limit with a possession limit of 15.

Mourning dove

The mourning dove season will continue through Oct. 30. The limit is 15 a day, with a possession limit of 45. Remember pigeons, which are also known as rock doves and Eurasian collared doves are not counted as part of the mourning dove limit.

If you are of the belief pigeons are unclean, consider this: The ones living on farmland are eating the same food as the mourning doves and collared doves.

Limits suspended on Park and Blue lakes

Fish and Wildlife is allowing the public to harvest as many fish as possible from Blue and Park lakes.

They are removing the daily limit and size limit, plus extending the fishing season through Oct. 21 on Blue Lake and Oct. 28 on Park Lake. Normally the seasons end Sept. 30 on these lakes.

This is a chance to fish all day and night to fill the freezer, because there is no daily limit for all game fish on Blue and Park lakes. Well, the above sentence sounds good, but it may be difficult to find a bunch of fish to take home.
