Ferguson's gun stance ignorant and emotional

| September 15, 2016 1:45 PM

Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s decision to promote the banning of modern sporting rifles is showing his ignorance and lack of knowledge regarding firearms.

The number of shootings by so-called “assault weapons” is so low when compared to shootings by handguns, that the ATF does not make a distinction between the type of long gun used in these murders. My understanding of the recent shooting in Mukilteo is that the alleged perpetrator only fired four rounds, so what’s the difference if he had a 10-round magazine or a 30-round magazine, except that the 30-round magazine has a bigger chance of jamming.

When Mr. Ferguson took the oath of office, he swore to uphold the Constitution, including all the amendments. One cannot pick and choose the ones they like and dislike to fit their agenda.

The Supreme Court has ruled that owning a firearm is an individual right. It did not specify only muzzle-loading flintlocks, in common use at the time of the signing of the Constitution, as the only legal firearms, but I’m sure, by Mr. Ferguson’s ill-advised and ignorant actions, he would prefer that were the case. His emotional, knee-jerk reaction to modern sporting rifles signals his intent to ban possession of all firearms by law-abiding gun owners, starting with the scary-looking guns first, in spite of his presumed protest to the contrary.

A vote for Attorney General Bob Ferguson is a vote for gun control, not crime control.
