Robert Kent Postma

Robert Kent Postma, 78, a resident of Royal City, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 4, 2016 at home, his family at his side.

Robert was born in Provo, Utah on March 28, 1938, son of Frank and Carol Partridge Postma. He met his future wife, Donna D. Mekalsen, while serving in the Army in Poulsbo Wash. They were married on Dec. 20, 1959 and lived for the first 26 years in Kitsap and Jefferson counties in western Washington. For the last 31 years they have made their home in eastern Washington in rural Royal City.

Robert retired in 1994 from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton where he was an inspector. After retirement Robert worked part-time for the Port of Royal City helping to develop their water infrastructure. Robert loved to go camping and fishing with his family and enjoyed gardening and landscaping around their home. He was devoted to his family and friends and treasured his pets and horses.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years, Donna, and two children Deborah M. Postma of Moses Lake and David A. (Jody) Postma of Royal City. A Celebration of Robert's Life will be held on Oct. 8, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Port of Royal City office at 4975 Road 13.5 SW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Robert's memory to the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation, 1031 W. Broadway, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
