MOSES LAKE — Outside hitter Rebecca Hall approached the line judge, hands on head, desperate for an explanation.

The call stood, Eastmont into the net, and the marathon third game would continued tied 30-30.

An otherwise by the numbers volleyball match was transformed into a pendulum of emotional highs and lows as the Wildcats and Chiefs traded game-points in the decisive third. Moses Lake, down 2-0, had an opportunity to extend the match to a fourth game twice, but was thwarted on both occasions. Eastmont eventually strung two points together to take the match 25-19, 25-16, 32-30.

“I wish we would’ve played with that intensity starting out,” senior co-captain Alexa Cox said. “We didn’t play to our ability, especially in the first and second set, and so I’m proud of our team how we pushed through the last set. But the first two I wish we would’ve pushed ourselves a little harder.”

Moses Lake played even with Eastmont for much of the first game and sat tied 19-19 before Hall took over. An ace by Hall kick-started a 6-0 run by the Wildcats.

Eastmont made its move earlier in the second game, using a 14-4 run to break a 7-7 tie.

“Tonight’s match was filled with a lot of errors and we did not play clean,” head coach Michael DeHoog said. “I felt like we played better at our tournament this weekend. We had a lot of errors.”

Moses Lake struggled to maintain any offensive flow and ended with a hit percentage of -.063, well off the prescribed goal of .285. Gabi Rios and Yasmin Shateri notched five and four kills, respectively.

Errors showed up in the final game as Moses Lake held a late four-point lead, 23-19. However, Eastmont regained the lead 25-24 behind two kills by Hall, two aces by libero Kolbie Voshall and hitting errors by Rios and Shateri.

“I think that we get in ruts,” said Cox, who had 13 digs. “We need to focus on thinking that we’re going to win this game instead of we’re going to lose this game.”

Othello 3, East Valley 2

OTHELLO — Othello rallied from 2-1 to beat East Valley in five games 18-25, 25-18,20-25, 25-19, 15-12.

“I was impressed just with the hustle and heart of our girls,” head coach Steve Parris said.

Cayleen Garza and Heidi Martinez led the Huskies’ attack with 10 and seven kills, respectively. Macy Hampton added and 28 assists and Allison Garza recorded 22 digs.

“Heidi and Cayleen really poured it on tonight,” Parris said. “They hit really well and made some very smart choices with the volleyball. Our passing wasn’t great, we need to clean that up so we can get our middles more involved in our offense. We served them pretty tough. Cayleen and Macy both went on some runs for us at the service line.”

Quincy 3, Ephrata 0

QUINCY — Quincy was able to best rival Ephrata in three games 25-20, 25-21, 26-24.

Natalie Thomsen and Morgan Kleyn led the Jacks with 11 kills each.

Connell 3, Warden 1

WARDEN — Although Warden lost to Connell 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 23-25, head coach Dennis Treat was pleased with the progress his team made since the weekend.

“We had a real rough weekend at the Freeman Tournament so I wasn’t really sure what to expect from our team tonight,” he said.

The Cougars competed with the Eagles — a strong South Central Athletic Conference program — and showed positives going forward.

Angel Reyes had six kills and seven assists, Monica Canales notched five kills, Lorena Garcia had 12 assists and Jizelle Pruneda had 12 digs to go with four aces.

Soap Lake 3, Bridgeport 1

BRIDGEPORT — Soap Lake won three consecutive games to rally against Bridgeport 23-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-16.

Tracie Delgado paced the Eagles with 16 assists, five digs and four aces. Marina Obzyhlova, Makenna Johnson and Taylor Harvill all contributed to the attack.

Obzyhlova led the way with nine kills, while Johnson and Harvill added six and four, respectively.
