Betty Jean Jenkins

Betty Jean Jenkins of Othello, Wash. passed away on Aug. 27, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Duchesne County, Utah on March 12, 1928.

Betty graduated from Roosevelt High School. She was married to Edward “Jay” Jenkins on May 27, 1944. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage and had five children. Jay passed away May 29, 2004.

Betty was owner and operator of an Aflac and Mutual of Omaha insurance company here in Othello. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce serving as the first woman president. Betty was very ambitious, which lead her to learn the Spanish language so she could better serve the Hispanic community that she so dearly loved. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many leadership capacities. She had a passion for her family, camping, and serving the community.

She is survived by her children, Jaelee (Michael) Harvey, John W. Jenkins, Janice (Richard) Mollotte and Roger (Becky) Durkee, all of Othello, Washington; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jay Jenkins; parents James and Margaret Giles; two children, infant Duane Jenkins and Charlene Hoffer; and grandson Jimmy Taylor. A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2016, at Stevens Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2016, at the 7Seventh Avenue Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
