Prep roundup: Battle's big night downs Moses Lake

YAKIMA — Moses Lake’s five-game win streak was halted at West Valley.

Rams quarterback Brandon Battle lit up the Chiefs for 341 yards and five touchdowns, leading West Valley to a 51-14 win.

Moses Lake scored two first-quarter touchdowns, but committed eight turnovers and surrendered 35 unanswered points to the Rams. Brandon Griffith found Gio Walker for a 42-yard score and Draven Nevarez rushed for a 15-yard touchdown.

West Valley receiver Cody Allen caught seven balls for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the loss, Moses Lake had clinched at least a share of the Columbia Basin Big Nine league championship and is the No. 1 seed to state out of District 6.

The Chiefs have a bye this week before their first playoff game either Nov. 11 or 12.

Quincy 29, East Valley 0

QUINCY — Quincy ended a four-game skid with a shutout of East Valley 29-0.

Kade Schutzmann threw two touchdowns — an 85-yard strike to Kaeden Murphy and a 30-yard pass to Tanner Wallace.

Kevin Rios nailed two 32-yard field goals and Travis Harris pounded in a one-yard touchdown.

The Jacks’ defense stepped up with a safety.

No. 5 Prosser 27, Othello 14

OTHELLO — Big plays allowed fifth-ranked Prosser to hand Othello its first CWAC loss 27-14.

Reese Jones totaled 63 yards and scored a touchdown. Kyler Villarreal caught a 68-yard touchdown pass from DJ Guzman, giving Othello a 14-7 lead. However, a long kickoff return allowed Tanner Bolt to throw a game-tying 13-yard touchdown just before halftime.

The Mustangs were able to shutout the Huskies in the second half 13-0.

No. 4 Ellensburg 56, Ephrata 14

EPHRATA — Anthony Evans and Jake Oxos each caught a touchdown, but No. 4 Ellensburg roared past Ephrata 56-14.

Bryce Helgeson totaled 304 yards and six touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Helgeson had four touchdowns on the ground and two through the air.

No. 1 Royal 79, River View 9

KENNEWICK — Royal led 72-6 at halftime and routed River View 79-9.

Kaden Jenks threw six touchdowns passes for the top-ranked Knights. Corbin Christensen caught three of Jenks’ six TD tosses.

Danny Cuevas rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Warden 40, Kiona-Benton 28

BENTON CITY — Warden beat Kiona-Benton 40-28 for its fifth win in a row.

The Cougars led 28-14 at halftime.

Soap Lake 54, Bridgeport 14

SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake raced to a 46-0 halftime lead and beat Bridgeport 54-14.

Ruvim Turchik rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Turchik added a 75-yard touchdown reception.

Brayden Winters completed six passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

Reardan 34, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 7

RITZVILLE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague allowed 34 unanswered points and lost to Reardan 34-7.

Damien Rouleau opened the game with a one-yard touchdown run.

Volleyball

Ephrata eliminated from postseason, Othello loses in semis

OTHELLO — Selah beat Ephrata and Othello to earn a trip to the district championship game Nov. 4 against Ellensburg.

The Vikings beat Ephrata in the first round 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 15-25, 15-9. Next, Selah upset No. 2 seed Othello in three sets 25-19, 25-16, 25-22.

Ephrata was eliminated from the postseason. Othello will play East Valley on Wednesday to determine GNL Crossover seeding.

Soap Lake bounced from playoffs

EPHRATA — Soap Lake lost its first two matches of the Class 2B District 6 Tournament at Ephrata High School and was eliminated from the playoffs.

Soap Lake lost to Dayton in the first round and dropped a match to White Swan in the consolation bracket. Set scores were unavailable by press time.

Ephrata’s Ethan Green third at districts

COWICHE — Ephrata’s Ethan Green placed third overall at the CWAC District/Regional Glue meet Saturday at Apple Ridge.

Green finished the three-mile course in 15 minutes, 40 seconds.

West Valley’s Jacob Nicholson won the race in 15 minutes, 30.1 seconds. Selah took the team title in both the boys and girls competition.

Ellensburg’s Uhuru Hashimoto won the girls’ race in 18 minutes, 22.6 seconds.

Quincy’s Heikes Bryn and Ephrata’s Karen Billingsley qualified for the state meet, finishing 12th and 17th, respectively.
