Trunk or Treat set for Monday

| October 29, 2016 1:00 AM

MATTAWA — Trunk or Treat, a Halloween tradition that has taken hold here, will be celebrated next Monday, Oct. 31., from 5-7 p.m. at and around City Hall.

“We usually get 300 or more little kids,” Grant County Fire District No. 8 Chief Dave Patterson said.

Although everyone is invited, Trunk or Treat was designed as a safe place for little ones to celebrate in the late afternoon. It’s understood older children will go out trick-or-treating that evening.

Trunk or Treat is spearheaded by the fire and police departments. It involves several volunteers.

Each department decorates one of its vehicles and loads it with goodies. Any resident who is so inclined is invited to do the same and simply show up at the PD-city hall parking lot at around 4:30 p.m.

“We have people who do it every year,” Patterson said.

In addition to treats, police and fire personnel provide traffic safety at the event. Their trunks include safety information.

Most of the block that is fronted by the police and fire departments is blocked off for the celebration.
