Sports roundup: Moses Lake solid on Day 1 of districts

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake girls swim and dive advanced all three relays and eight swimmers to championship finals on the first day of the District 6 Championships.

“Our goal going into the prelims was just to get the job done,” head coach Tony St. Onge said. “We were 100 percent in accomplishing our goal in prelims.”

Lacy Johnson (100, 200 freestyle), Reagan Ewing (200 individual medley), Cora Dana (50, 100 freestyle), Ashley Madrishin (50, 100 freestyle), Anna Fair (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), ShyAnne Speed (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Janice Pryor (500 freestyle) and Brittney Richeson (500 freestyle) reached championship finals.

Fair, Speed, Dana and Madrishin comprised the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays that made championship finals. Johnson, Ewing, Richeson and Pryor made up the 400 freestyle relay that qualified for the championship final.

Day 2 of preliminaries continues today at 10 a.m. District finals are Saturday at 11 a.m.

Girls soccer

Ephrata 2, Ellensburg 1 (2OT)

ELLENSBURG — Ephrata rallied to beat Ellensburg 2-1 in double overtime.

The win moved Ephrata into the district championship game against Selah on Nov. 1 and clinched a state tournament berth.

Ellensburg scored just before halftime on a goal from Haley Cantu. The Tigers tied the game in the 65th minute on a penalty kick and scored the game-winning goal off a rebound in the second overtime.

Selah 3, Othello 0

SELAH — Othello was stifled by Selah in a 3-0 defeat.

The Vikings double and sometimes triple teamed Nikki Velazquez. Selah scored twice in the first half and once in the second half.

Othello will meet Ellensburg Nov. 1 to decide seeding for the Great Northern League crossover games.

Volleyball

Moses Lake 3, Sunnyside 0

SUNNYSIDE — Yasmin Shateri recorded 13 kills and Moses Lake swept Sunnyside 25-17, 25-18, 25-14.

Shateri also had six digs and four aces.

“We played well back-to-back matches, which was nice,” head coach Michael DeHoog said.

Elly Johnson and Gabi Rios added seven and six kills, respectively.

Amy Lunderville had a solid all-around game with 15 assists, seven digs and three aces.

“Everyone did their job,” DeHoog said. “It was good volleyball.”

Moses Lake will either travel to Eisenhower or Eastmont on Tuesday for a district play-in match.

The Chiefs lost to Eastmont twice and split with Eisenhower during the regular season.

Cross country

Moses Lake boys narrowly miss state berth

WENATCHEE — Moses Lake boys cross country was edged by West Valley for the second state berth at the District 6 Championships in Wenatchee.

Moses Lake finished with 87 points to West Valley’s 84. Eisenhower won comfortably with 19.

Eisenhower also won the girls’ competition, beating Davis 40-43. Moses Lake girls cross country took fifth with 111 points.

Carlie Gregg took fifth place in the girls’ race with a time of 19 minutes, 54.8 seconds.

Zachery Owens finished ninth in 16 minutes, 36.8 seconds.

The state cross country meet is Nov. 5 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

College volleyball

Columbia Basin 3, Big Bend 0

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend was swept by Columbia Basin 25-18, 25-14, 25-20.

Maddy Powers and Jacinda Fansher led the Vikings with seven kills each. Savannah Bass added 15 assists and 11 digs.
