Prep roundup: Few changes at the top of AP poll

Royal was one of three unanimous No. 1’s in this week’s Associated Press Washington High School Football Poll.

The Knights improved to 8-0 and extended their win streak to 22 games after a 60-13 rout of Columbia. Mount Baker bypassed fellow South Central Athletic Conference East team Connell for the second spot in Class 1A.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline stood pat at No. 2 in 1B behind top-ranked Lummi. ACH has a showdown with No. 4 Odessa-Harrington in the regular season finale.

Camas stayed at No. 1 in the 4A poll, followed by fellow unbeaten teams Richland and Sumner. Woodinville (fifth), Lake Stevens (sixth) and Monroe (10th) are also undefeated.

O’Dea was an unanimous No. 1 in 3A and two-time defending state champion Eastside Catholic slipped to third.

Archbishop Murphy remained on top in 2A. Central Washington Athletic Conference power Ellensburg stayed at No. 4.

Napavine was ranked No. 1 in 2B.

Girls soccer

Ephrata with five all-league selections

Five Ephrata players were named all-league after the Tigers tied for the Central Washington Athletic Conference league title.

Defenders Sydnee Pixlee and Sarai Kibby were first and second team, respectively. Midfielder Katelyn Ostrowski was second team and forwards Mya Spencer and Bekah Schmuck were second team and honorable mention, respectively.

Othello, who also tied for the CWAC crown, had four selections. Defenders Isabel Hardick and Rilee Heist were second team and honorable mention, respectively.

Midfielder Kaylee Martinez and forward Nikki Velazquez were first team. Quincy received the sportsmanship award and Jacks forward Alysha Donovan was first team.

Cross country

Ethan Green named CWAC Runner of the Year

Ephrata’s Ethan Green was all-league first team and Runner of the Year.

Ephrata had two other selections on the girls’ list: Karen Billingsley (first) and Maia Vick-Dishon (honorable mention).

Quincy’s Gonzalo Birrueta was second team for the boys and Heikes Bryn was second team for the girls.
