ROYAL CITY — A Royal City man was sentenced for threatening to kill a man whom he believed was seeing his wife.

Alexi Ochoa Quinones, 33, of Royal City, pleaded guilty to harassment. Grant County Superior Court Judge David Estudillo followed a joint recommendation between Deputy Prosecutor Mark Laiminger and defense attorney Michael Morgan and sentenced Ochoa Quinones to 180 days in jail, with 179 days suspended for two years and credit for one day served.

Ochoa Quinones’ sentence dates back to an incident on May 3, when the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a male, Ochoa Quinones, threatening a group of people with a gun in the 12500 block of Road H Southwest in Royal City. The deputy en-route to the scene was told that Ochoa Quinones left the residence heading toward Road 12 Southwest and later turned onto Road 12 Southwest heading west.

The investigating deputy was informed by a man at the residence that Ochoa Quinones pulled up to the house and made a quick stop next to some trees near the residence, according to police reports. Ochoa Quinones got out of the car and reached into his waistband, pulling out a gun.

“Alex got out of the car and at the same time he took a pistol out from the front of his pants and racks a bullet into the barrel,” a witness told the deputy.

The bullet ejected out of the gun and fell onto the ground. One of the witnesses stated Ochoa Quinones pointed the gun at him and his brothers. Ochoa Quinones claimed one of the brothers was seeing his wife and threatened to kill the man. Ochoa Quinones stated he was sure the man was the person who was seeing his wife because of a photo of the man on the phone.

The witnesses at the scene pointed out to Ochoa Quinones that the picture of the man he had on his phone and the man he threatened to kill were not the same people. A witness stated Ochoa Quinones, “looked like he had made a mistake."

The investigating deputy was able to find the bullet in the area near where Ochoa Quinones had parked his vehicle and the bullet was placed into police evidence.
