Turkey bingo set for fourth run
OTHELLO – It’s about a month away, but it’s not too early to alert folks to the Othello Lions Club’s Turkey Bingo on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
“This is a family affair,” Lions member Donna Ruttan said. “We have prizes for the children, too.”
Turkey Bingo will be held in the Othello Senior Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Among other prizes, 20 turkeys will be given away.
For $10, a player can play 10 games, and there will be 20 games. Other prizes include bags of potatoes and onions and fixings for a turkey. One of the prizes will be an iPad.
While you’re at the Bingo, a concession stand will offer hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, water and cookies. Most everything is priced at $1, including the hot dogs.
“Some people come here for their dinner that night,” Ruttan said. “Where else can you buy a hot dog for one dollar?”
The Turkey Bingo has proved successful, Ruttan said. So has the spring-time Ham Bingo held just before Easter.
Ruttan noted the turkeys weigh 10-12 pounds. The spud and onion bags are five-pounders.
Turkey Bingo usually draws as many as 70 players. There is room for 100 or more, Ruttan said.
The funds raised by the Turkey Bingo, after covering expenses of the event, are dedicated to the Lions Scholarship fund.
“The scholarship fund is the main reason for the Turkey Bingo,” Ruttan said.
