Candidate forum set for Oct. 19

| October 15, 2016 1:00 AM

OTHELLO – The Greater Othello Chamber of Commerce and the Adams County Farm Bureau invite citizens to a candidate forum at Reichert’s Showhouse at 130 N. Broadway in Othello on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The forum is an effort by the sponsoring groups to increase the awareness of local community members about the candidates and the offices they seek.

According to Barbara Anderson, chair of the Othello Political Forum Committee, the evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a welcome and flag salute and quickly move into candidate speeches.

The facilitator will start with candidates running for federal and state offices and then move to the 9th Legislative District contenders and Adams County contestants.

All candidates will have an opportunity to give a four-minute speech introducing themselves and how they plan to enhance the office for which they are vying.

The speeches will be followed by three written questions from local political experts and community members in attendance. Candidates will be asked to limit their answers to two minutes per question.

Anderson said candidates who have confirmed their participation, as of last Saturday, are:

Clint Didier, for 4th District congressman.

Mark Schoessler, for state senator, 9th Legislative District.

Mary Dye, for state representative, 9th Legislative District.

Jennifer Goulet, for state representative, 9th Legislative District.

Joe Schmick, for state representative, 9th Legislative District.

Ken Johnson, for Adams County Commissioner.

Roger Hartwig, for Adams County Commissioner.

John Marshall, for Adams County Commissioner.

John Hunt, for Adams County Commissioner.

All other candidates who serve Adams County and the Othello community have been invited.
