OTHELLO – Now is the time to for the Lady Huskie volleyball netters to get serious. The pre-season is over and the CWAC league season is in full swing.

Othello started the league season in fine fashion, beating Grandview at home Tuesday and Quincy on the road Thursday to improve its record to 2-0 in league and 6-1 over-all.

“We feel good where we are right now,” Huskie head coach Steve Parris said Friday after beating Quincy 3-0 in straight sets. “We know we can beat any team in our league but can also be beat by anyone.”

The Huskies swept Grandview 25-11, 25-20, 25-4 in the league opener for both teams. Heidi Martinez led Othello with seven kills. Cayleen Garza added five kills, Tanaya Andersen had four kills and four blocks, and Mykiah Hollenbeck contributed four kills.

Eryn Wolfs served four aces, Macy Hampton added 21 assists and Allison Garza chipped in with 11 digs.

Othello kept the unbeaten league record intact with another straight set 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 victory at Quincy. Garza had seven kills and six aces, Anderson five kills and three blocks, Macy Hampton added three aces and 21 assists and Allison Garza contributed 14 digs.

“We struggled in the first set with finishing plays,” Parris said. “We took advantage of their defensive struggles in the second and third set and were able to run away with it. They are actually better than the scores showed.”

Othello hosts unbeaten league opponent Ephrata on Tuesday, and the always tough Selah Vikings invade Taggares Gym on Thursday. Saturday, the Huskies travel to Spokane for the Linda Sheridan Classic.
