MATTAWA – Regrouping after their 69-8 loss to Royal High School last Friday, the Wahluke Warriors prepare for an opponent this Friday that plays football more to their level.

Wahluke’s game this week will be at College Place. It is a new high school and new to the SCAC East.

The Hawks have recorded one win over SCAC West Highland. They’ve been hammered in three SCAC East contests. Small in numbers, they forfeited to Royal.

The contest with Royal was brutal. The No. 1-ranked Knights scored three touchdowns before Wahluke even ran a play.

Royal used the on-side kick after its first two scores, and Wahluke failed to pounce on the ball, The Knights recovered for two short touchdown drives, and the score was 21-0 midway through the first quarter.

“The tough part against Royal is you can’t spot a team 21 before you get the ball,” coach Mike Foristiere said.

“No doubt they are good and very well coached,” he added. “They dominated us at the line of scrimmage, especially their defensive front.”

Foristiere thought his team played good defense generally but, as has happened all season, the Knights held Royal for two, three or four plays, and then a big one exploded.

“For the rest of the season our goal is to play one at a time and finish the best we can. That is all we can do,” Foristiere said.

Daniel Ayala had four tackles, Juan Silva, Eli Barajas, Alex Rivera, Tony Avalos, Jesus Cisneros and Rock Foristiere had three tackles each.

On offense, Silva rushed for 74 yards, Rock Foristiere had 43 yards, one touchdown and one 2-point conversion, and Ayala rushed for 68 yards.

Quarterback Oscar Rodriguez completed one of two passes for 27 yards, the completion to Matt Jorgensen. He also had two rushes for 18 yards.
