Sales tax to rise in Mattawa, Othello

OLYMPIA – Consumers in the cities of Mattawa and Othello will pay a higher sales tax rate on purchases, starting Saturday, Oct. 1.

New revenue generated by the higher rate will help support transportation services in both cities, according to the Washington State Department of Revenue..

Consumers in Mattawa will now pay an 8.1 percent sales tax rate, an increase of two-tenths of one percent. The increased tax receipts will help pay for a new transportation benefit district.

The sales and use tax rate in the city of Othello will increase two-tenths of one percent to a total tax rate of 7.9 percent. That increased tax will help support a new transportation benefit district.

The last time Mattawa raised its local sales tax rate was in April 2006. Othello last raised its local sales tax rate in April 2009.
