Methodists set Chili feed for Oct. 15

ROYAL CITY – The Royal City United Methodist Church has scheduled its annual Chili Feed, co-sponsored by the Templo De Fe Church, for Saturday, Oct. 15.

The feed will be held at the Royal City Community Center, 13702 Dodson Rd. S (Golf Course). Dinner will be served from 5-8 p.m.

“We have extended our hours of serving to 8 p.m. so farmers and farm workers who are busy harvesting can come and eat before calling it a day,” the church’s Alice Parker said.

“Please feel free to come straight from the field, and don’t worry about going home to clean up first,” she added.

The menu consists of chili, chili Dogs, hot dogs, salad, corn bread, ice cream, lemonade, coffee, and tea. The charge for the meal is the contribution a diner is willing to make.

Parker noted that the United Methodist Church is sharing the building with the Templo De Fe Church for their church services. The two congregations are joining forces to sponsor the chili feed to continue to raise funds to complete installing a lift to make the church building handicap-accessible.

“When that project is completed, additional maintenance projects will be undertaken,” Alice said. “The church was built in the 1960s. So maintenance is necessary to keep the building sound and functional for uses and needs of the community.”
