Community Christmas Basket program to kick off Nov. 21

OTHELLO — There is a series of events that lead to the day needy families in Othello receive the foods for a traditional Christmas meal from the Othello Community Christmas Basket program.

Anyone willing to volunteer time, money or labor should contact Merritt Johnson at 488-2471 or Ken Johnson at 488-5088. The activities are:

Nov. 21

Sign-up slips will be delivered to the schools, churches, clinics and doctor offices this week. Families are accepted by referral only, and individuals should not self refer themselves.

Nov. 26, 27

There will be a toy collection drive at the Othello Walmart on the Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Dec. 2, 3

The toy collection drive at the Othello Walmart will continue.

Dee. 3

A denim quilt will be raffled at the Christmas Bazaar at the Wahitis Elementary School on Saturday. Choice of Seahawk, WSU or Othello Huskie quilt to be given away.

Tickets may be purchased from any committee member at the bazaar or at the upcoming Firemen’s Breakfast.

Dec. 4

The annual Othello Firemen’s Community Christmas Basket Breakfast will be held today from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. This hearty community breakfast is a big fundraiser for the program.

Dec. 14

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be doing a food drive, collecting door to door.

Dec. 17

Othello Community Christmas Baskets will be delivered today. Volunteers will head out with the baskets from the Othello Fire Station, beginning at 8 a.m.

Raffled quilt to be awarded, need not be present to win.
