Manta Rays to host Thankswimming meet
MOSES LAKE β Beginning tomorrow evening and continuing through Sunday, Manta Ray Aquatics is hosting our second annual Thankswimming Open meet in Moses Lake.
We have over 50 MRA swimmers participating, which is the largest number of swimmers the Manta Rays have had enter a meet in decades. As you may recall from last year, we named this meet Thankswimming to not only honor the upcoming holiday, but also to give a quirky name to a meet that MRA will donate a portion of the proceeds from to a local youth based organization.
Itβs our way of saying thank you to a community that has supported swimming for over 60 years. Last year we were able to donate money to the Boys and Girls Club as well as sponsor the Buddy Walk.
This year we once again were able to sponsor the Buddy Walk, and will also once again make a donation to the Boys and Girls Club. Our swim team has grown in size by almost 400 percent in the last two years, and the Moses Lake and surrounding communities have been amazing in helping us by providing much needed funding and other donations.
As our team has grown, our need for new equipment, coach training, hospitality supplies, etc. has also grown. Numerous businesses and individuals have generously donated to the team to help us provide the best opportunity we can for our members.
Two years ago we had about 20 members and employed one coach. We now have around 80 members and employ five amazing coaches who give every member of the team the training and motivation they need to achieve their individual personal goals. The Manta Ray Aquatics swim team would like to express their deepest appreciation to the community and thank them for their continued support.
