Stanley Donald Yates, Jr. passed away at his home in Ephrata, Wash. on Nov. 12, 2016, at the age of 77. He is survived by his brother Ronald Yates; his loving companion Hilda Parker; his grandchildren Stanley Yates Jr., Emily Yates, Brandon Robinson and Bre ‘Ann Robinson and his great-grandchildren; Audrey Beck, Christopher Roberts, Stanley Yates IV, Haylee Robinson and Jozee Robinson.

Stan Yates was born in Milwaukee, Wis. on April 6, 1939 to Donald and Norma Yates. Stan married the love of his life, Jan Yates, on April 14, 1962, and they were married for 39 years. He joined the Army at age 19 and served as a Staff Sergeant E6. He retired from the Army on Feb. 28, 1979 after serving 20 years and 13 days in the service.

Stan moved to Ephrata, Wash. in 1992 and worked at Azmee for 12 years before retiring a second time.

Stan traveled all over the world through his time in the service. He and his late wife Jan spent several years across seas learning languages and making friends everywhere they went. He was an avid bowler on the Papa’s Lake bowling league for years. His team was “Slick in the Chicks.” He enjoyed gambling, fishing, woodworking and playing pinochle at the Ephrata Senior Center. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams play (Green Bay Packers and the Shock). But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his dog Tiger.

Stan Yates was the funniest, kindest, most straightforward, intelligent man. He was the most incredible man that made everyone near him smile and laugh. He was the very best grandpa.

Memorial services will be held at the Bread of Life Church, located at 140 14th Ave NW, Ephrata, Wash, Saturday at 2 p.m. There will be a time for gathering afterwards. Any and all who knew Stan Yates are welcome to come and celebrate his life.
