Serve Moses Lake concert to tell stories of poor, needy
MOSES LAKE — With its upcoming benefit concert this Saturday, Serve Moses Lake is going to try something different this year.
“We’re going to try and tell the story of in need, visually and through song,” said Tim Cloyd, director of Serve Moses Lake. “We’re going to hear stories and express thanksgiving to God.”
Cloyd said this year the benefit concert, which features local musicians from various churches as well as a choir and a kids ensemble, draws inspiration from Psalm 107, which begins with a call for thanksgiving to God “for his steadfast love endures forever” and goes on describe how God leads those who wander in deserts, delivers those who sit in darkness, redeems sinners from their foolishness, and rescues sailors from the tumult of the deep.
“He pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes,” the psalmist writes, “but he raises the needy out of affliction, and makes their families like flocks.”
Cloyd said the program will consist of new songs and old hymns, with words displayed on a screen so the audience can sing along.
Serve Moses Lake is a non-profit organization founded and supported by a number of churches in the Moses Lake area to serve anyone in need.
“We are primarily here to meet and journey with people in whatever they might be facing,” Cloyd said. “We have people that make lunches, and we give out clothing, coats, and blankets.”
The concert will be held in the Moses Lake High School theater on Saturday, Nov. 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The concert is free, but those attending are encouraged to make a donation to Serve Moses Lake.
