Pilgrim Lutheran Church baked potato feed raises $1,113 for food bank
OTHELLO — Othello’s Pilgrim Lutheran Church raised $1,113 for the Othello Food Bank recently with a baked potato feed.
A check for the $1,113 and a check was given to Sharon Mobley, the director of the Othello Food Bank, on Oct. 28. “The real thanks go to the people of Othello who came out and supported our efforts in this fundraiser,” Pilgrim Lutheran Pastor Donald Short said.
Sharon Mobley noted that monetary donations are especially helpful this time of year. The food bank will be visited by a lot of people who need food for holiday meals.
“I cannot imagine serving a meager meal in an area that produces so much food for our country,” Pastor Short said.
The Pilgrim Lutheran congregation has hosted the potato feed before, but it seemed to be re-energized this year. There were lots of folks.
“We served about 150 pounds of potatoes, and we almost ran out of chili.” said Anna Short, wife of Pastor Short. “We had to run to the store for more chili in the middle of the feed.”
“That’s a good problem,” she added. “It means we fed more people.”
The charity event was funded entirely by donations from the community.
“The people of Othello are very generous,” Pastor Short said. The Othello Food Bank is still accepting donations for the upcoming holiday season. Contributions may be mailed to 949 E Main St, Othello, WA 99344 . For more information call (509) 488-6044.
