Wahluke football to close grid campaign at home with Goldendale
MATTAWA — After last Friday’s 62-16 football road defeat at Connell, Wahluke High School must be looking forward to this Friday’s closing home contest with Goldendale.
The Timberwolves have struggled in the SCAC West as the Warriors have struggled in the SCAC East. It should an even match. Both teams are 2-7.
As many teams have done this year against No. 3-ranked Connell, the Warriors contributed to their own downfall. They fumbled the ball away five times, and Connell blocked a punt that was returned for a score.
“With six giveaways you have a hard time competing,” coach Mike Foristiere said. “Even though, our kids kept fighting.”
The Warrior defense was led by Eli Barajas with five tackles. Alex Rivera and Daniel Ayala had three tackles each.
The offense produced 258 total yards, 194 on the ground. Rock Foristiere led the rushers with 81 yards, both touchdowns and two 2-point conversions.
Foristiere noted Juan Silva has rushed for 1,023 yards. He said Ayala (875) and Rock Foristiere (874) could reach that plateau in the finale.
“With one game to go, we have an opportunity to have three 1,000-yard rushers,” coach Foristiere said.
