Opening for Larson Ice Rink pushed back a week

| November 8, 2016 12:00 AM

MOSES LAKE — Warmer temperatures on the horizon have set the opening of the Larson Ice Rink back a week.

The rink was initially set to be open on Friday, Nov. 4 but because of warmer temperatures in the forecast Moses Lake Parks and Recreation made the decision to push back the rink’s opening to Nov. 11. A story in This Week Columbia Basin lists the original Nov. 4 opening date.

“Building ice requires colder temperatures, and rebuilding ice after a meltdown adds significant costs and puts a heavy strain on the compressors and equipment,” stated the parks and recreation department on their Facebook page. “While we aim to open the rink by the first weekend of November each year, conditions outside of our control make it necessary to be flexible.”
