Royal football streak up to 22 with 60-13 win last Friday

ROYAL CITY — Royal High School broke to a 26-0 first quarter lead and rolled Burbank, 60-13, last Friday to stretch its football winning streak to 22 games.

The Knights (8-0, 6-0 SCAC East) will conclude their season this Friday at River View and are expected to win. Then they’ll take a two-week break before post-season action.

Running back Danny Cuevas started the scoring Friday with a seven-yard run. Isaac Ellis had two touchdown receptions of 27 and 24 yards for scores, and Cuevas added a touchdown reception of 36 yards.

The Knights poured it on in the second period. Quarterback Kaden Jenks scored from the 1-yard line. Corbin Christensen scored on a 10-yard pass reception, Jenks scored on a two-yard run and Cuevas added a 34-yard run. The scoring ended just after halftime with a seven-yard reception by C.J. Quintero.

Jenks finished with 10-15 passing for 152 yards and four touchdowns. Christensen went 1-1 for 27 yards and a score.

Cuevas led the rushing with 133 yards on nine carries. Alonso Hernandez added 48 yards on four carries.

Ellis caught four passes for 84 yards, Cuevas reeled in two for 51 yards, and Quintero gained 34 yards on three receptions. Juan Niebla had a punt return of 56 yards.

Royal’s total offense was 421 yards. Burbank had 204 yards. Royal fumbled the ball away once and recovered two Burbank fumbles.

Alonso Hernandez was the leader on defense with three solo tackles and six assists. Quintero had three solos and one assist, Juan Hernandez had three solos and four assists, Juan Garcia had three solos and two assists, and Angel Farias had three solos.

Juan Hernandez had three tackles for loss, Quintero had two, and Ellis had one. Juan Niebla and Addin Felker had one interception each.
