Gary D Matzen

Gary D. Matzen was taken prematurely on Oct. 14, 2016 after a fatal hit and run car accident near Longmont, Colo.

Gary was born in Moses Lake Wash. on Sept. 18, 1951. He and his twin sister Vickie were the first paternal twins born at Samaritan Hospital. Gary was born to Gerhard (Flip) Matzen and Doris (Boots) Matzen.

He attended Moses Lake schools and graduated with the class of 1970. Gary then attended college at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. where he earned an engineering degree. Gary then began working for CH2M Hill in Denver, Colo. as a civil engineer. He worked there for over 35-plus years. Gary was recently involved in creating an invention called the nested nozzle mixer.

Gary married Kristina Marshall of Estes Park, Colo. They resided in Longmont where they raised two children, Joshua and Megan.

One of Gary’s favorite pastimes was playing golf. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and football. Gary was an excellent son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Gary was blessed with two grandchildren and one on the way. Gary had a very laid-back sense of humor, and he was a very kind and generous person.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Gary is survived by his wife Kristina Matzen of Longmont, Colo.; his son Joshua and his wife Samantha Matzen (children Zoe and Zie) of Longmont, Colo.; his mother Doris (Boots) Matzen of Moses Lake; his twin sister Vickie Skeesick of Spanaway, Wash. and his sister Bunny Taylor of Moses Lake, Wash. as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Gerhard Matzen, his brother Darrell Matzen and his grandmother Sylvia Hanson, all of Moses Lake.

A gathering to honor Gary will be held in Longmont, Colo.
