Leona C. Massengale

Leona C. Massengale was born in Montrose, Colo. on May 23, 1932 to Lester and Aileen Hunter. She passed away in Wenatchee, Wash. on May 19, 2016. Her family moved from Colorado to Idaho in 1946. Leona pursued a degree in nursing which she began at age 15. She earned her nursing degree from Samaritan School of Nursing in Nampa, Idaho in 1954.

Her early nursing years were spent in California, after which she moved to Moses Lake in 1962 where she worked at the local hospital. She moved to Wenatchee and upon completion of her master’s degree in 1989 from the University of Portland, she taught nursing at Wenatchee Valley College until 1998.

After her teaching career she managed Our House in Wenatchee until 2008. Leona then returned to Moses Lake to be near her family. She is survived by her son Gery (Gina); grandson Derick (Stephanie, great grandson Braxton); granddaughter Paige; brother Merlin; sisters Annie, Norma, Minnie and Ester and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Leona had a close relationship with her Lord and loved her family dearly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 3 p.m. at The Church of the Nazarene, Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Leona Massengale Scholarship at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center. Arrangements are by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
