High school names Top 10 from class of 2016

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake High School officials have announced the top 10 students of the school’s class of 2016.

The top 10 are: Ariana Regimbal, Tori Copley, Megan Mullin, Anjali Sharma, Marnie Skinner, Peyton Ries, Heather Carbon, Chinaza Abonyi, Kelly Fick and Collin Krogh.

Regimbal was involved in Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta and Link Crew. She also served as president of the Honor Society. Regimbal’s athletic participation included soccer and golf. She earned a number of accolades including a Rotary Club scholarship, the Violet Richardson Award, an AP Scholar award, and she was named a Girl’s State delegate. Regimbal will attend the University of Washington (UW) and will enroll in the UW honors program. She intends to pursue biology and pre-med studies.

Copley was active in the National Honor Society, Link Crew, Math Honor Society and a church youth group. At MLHS, she sported abilities in cheer and on the stunt team. She was named the most improved cheerleader in 2012-13, was a cheer state champion in 2014-15, placed second in state cheer in 2015-16, and was named the senior cheer captain in 2015-16. During her time at MLHS, she was named student of the month once and student of the year once. She also earned the world language department award and the school’s Outstanding 20 award this year. Copley will attend Whitworth University with intentions to study business.

Mullin was a soccer team captain during her time as a MLHS Chief. She was involved in Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Honor Society and Link Crew. Mullin also earned student of the quarter honors, an AP Scholar Award, and a Rotary Club Scholarship. She plans to attend Washington State University to study something in the science and math disciplines.

Sharma served in a number of roles for various clubs she participated in. She was the president of the Key Club, vice president of National Honor Society, and a contributing member in the Future Business Leaders of American and Culinary Club. Sharma was a varsity tennis play who also earned an Outstanding Achievement Award in the history department. She will attend the University of Washington in the fall to pursue a degree in neurobiology.

Skinner, a tenured pitcher on Moses Lake High School’s softball team, also had success on and off the field, like her top 10 peers. She was named league MVP in softball her junior and senior seasons, meanwhile earning student of the month and student on the year honors at MLHS on multiple occasions. Skinner was also involved in National Honor Society and Key Club and was an AP scholar. She will attend Iona College in New York to study biology.

Ries, too, earned an AP Scholar Award while being an honors student throughout her time at MLHS. She earned student of the quarter honors and was actively involved as a member of Link Crew, Key Club and Honor Society. She was also selected as royalty at the school’s Senior Prom. Ries was athletically involved, as well, as she was a three-year starting pitcher for the varsity softball team. Her accomplishment on the mound led her to being named a second-team all-league pitcher in 2014 and 2016, and an all-conference pitcher in 2015. She was also a four-year recipient of the WIAA’s academic award. Ries played volleyball during her time as a Moses Lake High School Chief. She will attend Washington State University in the fall with plans to pursue degrees in psychology and biology.

Carbon was a four-year veteran for the varsity swim and dive team and varsity track and field team. She broke school records for 6-dive and 11-dive, and was a three-time school record setter in pole vault. Carbon also added letters for her participation on the Knowledge Bowl team. In the classroom, Carbon achieved a high level of success while taking a heavy load of AP coursework. She was actively involved in Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, math team, Link Crew, and class senate. She will attend University of Idaho and intends to study food science or pre-dentistry.

Abonyi was active in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and math team. She was athletically involved in track and field, and also earned recognition as a musician at the high school. During her high school tenure, she was named the most improved musician at MLHS and also earned a Minute Club Award. Abonyi earned a high level of academic success with AP coursework. She will attend University of Washington in the fall and is undecided on what degree she will pursue, but plans to eventually continue her education at physical therapy school.

Fick exits Moses Lake High School with a number of accolades on her resume. She earned the Friends of the Northwest Association of Educational Opportunity Programs (NAEOP) Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship for Western Washington University, where she will begin her post secondary education in the fall. She was also an AP Scholar Award recipient, earned the science department award and was a semifinalist for the Jack Kent Cook Scholarship. At WWU, Fick plans to double-major in biochemistry and calculus.

Last but not least, Krogh was a four-year honor roll student who also played varsity football for the Chiefs. He was involved in Mu Alpha Theta, Honor Society and Link Crew. Krogh will continue his education at Central Washington University, where he intends to study business and education.
