Raffle permit deadline July 15

The special hunt permit deadline has passed. However, we have another drawing deadline coming up in about 10 weeks. We will mention this deadline from time to time in the future, but we want to give some more details today.

This is a raffle, which means the hunter buys tickets, which means this is a gambling operation. This means the tickets must be purchased from a licensed vendor, such as your favorite sporting goods store.

The tickets for deer, elk, moose and mountain goat go for $6 and the bighorn sheep tickets cost $11.50. There is no limit on the number of tickets a person can purchase.

I enjoy this type of raffle. The odds may be awful, but there is always a chance to win. Most of the seasons are Sept. 1 through Dec. 31.

Here is an example: The mule deer raffle allows a bag limit of one additional buck mule deer in Game Management Units open to mule deer hunting. The eastside elk raffle is open in all GMUs except GMU 157 and those closed to elk hunting or closed to branch antlered bull elk hunting. The bad limit is one additional bull elk.

The moose raffle allows for two permits and the hunt area is any open moose unit, with a bag limit of one any moose, bull or cow.

More on this raffle in the near future.
