'Clash' is a strong word for the judicial election issue

| May 19, 2016 1:00 PM

I really didn’t know what to expect when I saw the headline on the Herald’s front page May 13: “Judicial candidates clash on campaign ethic claims.”

I think the word “clash” is what really caught my eye, as I imagine it did a lot of people. Although, to me, the contents of the article certainly didn’t live up to the “clash” headline. Basically, it was much ado about nothing.

I know that in August 2015, Mr. Estudillo was appointed to fill the judge’s position vacated by Judge Evan Sperline’s retirement. This was an appointment done by the governor for the remainder of Judge Sperline’s term, approximately a year. Technically, Judge Estudillo is the correct title.

I truly hope that those who are involved with the local elections can rise above the national rubbish and deal with the issues and an individual’s true qualifications. Look at their websites, Facebook, et cetera, and most important, those who are endorsing them. That, to me, is very important.

On Nov. 8, the good people of Grant County will determine who is the most qualified for the position of Grant County Superior Court judge, Judge Estudillo or Nick Wallace. (Mr. Wallace being the one who is endorsed by retired Judge Evan Sperline.)
