Torivio Valdez Jr. (Junior), 59, of Moses Lake, Wash. went home to his Lord’s on Sunday, April 17, 2016 with family at his side at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, Wash. after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Cheriton, Va. on July 1, 1956 to parents Torivio P. Valdez Sr. and Marta Pruneda Valdez. He was raised in Moses Lake, Wash. He met his love of his life, Irene Lopez, in July of 1972 and they were married on June 28, 1975 in Warden, Wash. They had five children. Junior loved his family and the many family “get-together barbecues.” He enjoyed local fishing and was an avid sports fan. He was a kind and giving man who even at the end assisted as a “donor.” His presence and smile will be missed. His famous saying as people would tell him, “Have a good day” was “you have a better one.”

Junior enjoyed working as a well driller for many years until becoming a certified welder. He also was a talented mechanic assisting family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Irene and children Jeremy (Raquel) Valdez of Pasco, Wash.; Roy (Becky) Valdez of Moses Lake, Wash., Veronica (Fabian) Gonzales of Moses Lake, Wash., Sara Jane (fiancé - Carlos Adamy) of Wenatchee, Wash., Virginia Valdez of Moses Lake, Wash.

Junior is one of 25 births (four sets of twins) and is survived by his beautiful mother, Marta P. Valdez (94 years young); brothers Trinidad P. (Tina) Valdez, Renulfo P. (Es) Valdez, Rudy P. (Patsy) Valdez, Ruben P. Valdez, Carlos P. Valdez, Salvador P. Valdez and Jesus P. Valdez; sisters Maria Elena P. (Samuel-deceased) Suarez, Olivia P. (Marian) Agbisit, Maria P. Valdez, Sally P. (Joe - deceased) Balderas and numerous nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, Torivio P. Valdez Sr.; brothers Incarnacion (Joe) P. (Marge) Valdez, Frank P. (Angelita) Valdez, Pablo P. Valdez, Modesto P. Valdez, Rosendito P. Valdez, Jose P. Valdez, Jesus P. Valdez, Brijidio P. Valdez, Parjedes P. Valdez and recently deceased Osiel P. (see below) Valdez; and sisters Oralia P. Valdez, Juanita P. Valdez and Lucita P. Valdez.

He leaves 11 grandchildren whom he adored and was their No. 1 fan cheering them on while watching many of their sports throughout the years; Shana Valdez, Izaiah Sabala, Christian Sabala, Dacian Valdez, Kaylee Valdez, Paige Valdez, Royce Torivio Valdez, Esai Gonzales, Elias Gonzales, Ava Grace Valdez and Savannah Adamy and one great-grandchild, Aubree to cherish his loving memory and share his “stories.” His grandson, Royce wrote his papa, “the last name Valdez means to be kind, show respect, earn everything and stand up to the feared.”

“On Angel’s wings you were taken, but in my heart you’ll stay and in God’s light you will rest until we meet again some day”.
