Quincy man arrested after stolen lawn mower found on property

QUINCY — A Quincy man was arrested on Monday after a stolen lawn mower was reportedly found on his property.

On Monday deputies with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a home in the 8500 block of state Route 281, south of Quincy, in connection with an investigation into the theft of a $5,500 John Deere lawn mower from a residence about six miles from Quincy.

The owner of the stolen mower suspected Daniel Amaya, 42, of Quincy, might have been involved with the theft and reportedly went to Amaya’s residence and found mower tracks in some dirt and the mower itself hidden under a camouflage cover, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the SR-281 residence and, with the assistance of K-9 unit Grizzly, were able to convince Amaya to come out of the house. He was booked into the Grant County Jail for investigation of first-degree possession of stolen property and outstanding warrants for third-degree theft and possession of methamphetamine.

A woman, identified as Amanda Alcala, 36, of Quincy, was also in the SR-281 residence when deputies responded to the scene. She was reportedly combative with deputies and was eventually taken into custody. Alcala was booked into the GCJ for investigation of third-degree assault, resisting arrest, possession of meth and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

“The person whose mower was stolen did a great job of letting us know what had happened and where his mower was, allowing us to take action and arrest two people in this case,” Sheriff Tom Jones said.
