MLHS names Students of the Year

MOSES LAKE — A selection of students were recognized at Moses Lake High School Monday as the school’s Students of the Year.

At the ceremony, a total of 26 students received recognition in front of family and loved ones in the MLHS Theater for being standouts this year in terms of academic performance, personal achievement, service, moral character, leadership qualities, improvement and more. One student from each academic discipline was selected as the department’s Student of the Year. Additionally, a couple of students from each class were selected as Students of the Year.

The following students were recognized from each department for exemplifying what it means to be a Moses Lake High School Chief: Joel Bartlett, world language; Macy Adkinson, English; Sara Mengist, math; Daniela Valdivia-Arredondo, history; Colton Pearce, music; Kristal Jeffries, art; Adriel Martinez, PE/health; Payton Erdmann, science; Christina Flores, general; Miranda Kling, general; Israel Thiesfeld, general studies; and Mia Deleon, vocational.

In addition, the following students were selected as Student of the Year representatives of their class:

Ninth grade: Cory Kunjara, Alexandria Gaither, Sydnee Johnson, Bradley McAfee, Esmeralda Jimenez and Jose Barragan.

10th grade: Shane Dang and Morgan Yamane.

11th grade: Taylor Stevens and Ryan Karstetter.

12th grade: Alyssa Gray and Isaiah Thomas.

Finally, MLHS Principal Mark Harris presented two additional Student of the Year awards during Monday’s ceremony. Austin Perales was recognized with the Chief Pride Award and Heather Carbon earned the Principal’s Service Award.
