MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake’s rich wrestling history became even richer, courtesy of Andreck Johnson.

Johnson, 10, became — according to his coaches — the first triple crown winner from Moses Lake. The triple crown consists of the freestyle, Greco-Roman and folkstyle Washington State Wrestling Association tournaments.

Johnson — competing in the intermediate division — began his run at the Chuck Bullard Memorial folkstyle tournament in February. Johnson received a bye to the quarterfinals, beat Levi Turner 4-0 and pinned Cruise Swanson to reach the championship match.

Johnson placed first with a 13-2 major decision against Liam Bogle.

The freestyle and Greco-Roman championships were held this past weekend in Centralia. On Saturday, Johnson won a pair of freestyle bouts by technical fall.

In the Greco-Roman championship, Johnson won by fall against Aaron Macias in 58 seconds.

Johnson’s feat is extremely rare as few clubs focus on the freestyle and Greco-Roman discipline.
