MOSES LAKE — West Valley made Moses Lake work for its fourth straight Columbia Basin Big Nine league championship.

Playing two seven-inning games in a row for the first time all season, Marnie Skinner and a late rally helped the Chiefs sweep the Rams 5-0 and 9-5. The win in Game 1 clinched the league championship, top district seed and state tournament berth,

“It’s a good feelings,” head coach Dave Gregory said. “The kids really wanted it this year.”

Skinner cruised in the opener, no-hitting West Valley. From the plate, she added three hits and a double. Peyton Ries and Nikea Holman drove in two runs each.

The nightcap was much closer as the two teams were even 5-5 after six innings.

“It was no cake walk,” Gregory said. “It’s hard to play a team three times in a row. They’re out to get you.”

Moses Lake pulled ahead in the seventh after loading the bases and scoring on a wild pitch. Skinner capped the rally with a three-run homer.
