I looked at the weather and last Tuesday was forecast to be bright and sunny with no wind, so I called my buddy Brian Nielson, of BJ’s Guide Service, to see if he could get me out on either Moses Lake or Potholes Reservoir for a day of walleye fishing.

He is always happy to have me aboard and we launched at the south end of Moses Lake. We tried some of his proven spots down here but put only one fish in the boat.

We worked our way up the lake trying spots that he liked, with the way points on his depth sounder to prove it. I was fishing my favorite Dutch Fork Custom Lure Blue Tiger blades.

One was their ghost style in the turtle back, and the other was the same but with a chrome finish on the back of the blade. They worked great, too, but I was having a tough time hooking fish.

This not unusual with walleye, but they way they were biting saw me swing and miss more than usual. I think I went two for 12, meaning I only put two fish in the live well for twelve good bites. Brian did better at hooking fish and we ended up with a half dozen fish take home.

The Dutch Fork blades attracted twice the number of hits than what Nielson was running. He is going to get a supply. The fish were mostly 16 to 20 inches, and the bite should turn on here soon.
