Moses Lake splits dual meets in Yakima

YAKIMA — Moses Lake boys and girls track and field split its dual meet with Sunnyside and West Valley Thursday in Yakima.

Moses Lake picked up wins over Sunnyside — 71-61 for the boys and 91-40 for the girls — but lost to West Valley.

On the boys’ side, the Rams pulled ahead of the Chiefs 80-53, while the Lady Chiefs were edged 69-62.

Asha Watts placed first in the 200 meters with a time of 27.36. Watts also finished second in the 100 meters.

In the field events, Heather Carbon won the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet and Anna Yarbro finished first in shot put, throwing 34 feet, 8.5 inches.

Jon Ochoa and Draven Nevarez picked up wins for the boys. Ochoa finished first in the 300 hurdles, clocking in at 43.78 seconds. Nevarez continued his solid season in javelin with a first place mark of 159 feet, 2 inches.

The District 6 Championships begin May 19 at Eastmont High School.


Baseball

Lyle-Wishram-Klickitat 14, Soap Lake 9

KITTITAS — Soap Lake battled to keep its season alive, but could never close the gap on Lyle-Wishram-Klickitat and lost 14-9.

Seth Holden and Brayden Winters had multi-hit games for the Eagles, who improved by seven wins this season.


Softball

Othello sweeps Toppenish on senior day

OTHELLO — Othello routed Toppenish on senior day 19-1 and 12-0.

The two wins helped the Huskies (15-1, 16-2) keep pace with Selah for the league championship. Othello finishes its regular season on the road against Prosser on May 10.

The CWAC District Tournament begins May 17 at Selah.


Tennis

Moses Lake splits with Ephrata

MOSES LAKE — Class 2A Ephrata stepped up to face Class 4A Moses Lake, coming away with a split.

The Tigers took the boys’ match 4-3, while the Chiefs won the girls’ by a close 4-3 margin.

I was happy with they way both our teams finished the season,” Moses Lake head coach Richard Gregoire said. “Should give us some momentum moving into tournament play and the off season looking ahead to next year.”

Ephrata boys took three of four singles matches. Garner Sears, Derick Paynter and Ian McDonnell picked up wins for the Tigers. Brian Nguyen salvaged singles for Moses Lake, winning 1-6, 6-4-62.

Moses Lake’s No. 1 doubles team Canon Gregoire-James Zimmer won 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. The Chiefs No. 2 team Vaughn Koreis-Garrett Vance also won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

The Lady Tigers won the first three singles matches. Teighan Moore, Jennie DeLeon and Brianna Kliphardt all won in straight sets.

Senior Elle Sanislo ended Moses Lake’s skid in No. 4 singles and the Chiefs swept the doubles portion to take the match.

Ephrata closes its regular season today, 4 p.m., at home against Wapato. Moses Lake begins its district tournament May 14 at West Valley.

Othello girls stay undefeated

QUINCY — Othello girls tennis kept its undefeated season alive with a 4-1 win over Quincy.

The Lady Huskies are now 8-0 in the CWAC and 14-0 overall. With Selah’s loss to Prosser on Tuesday, Othello clinched the CWAC league championship.

Othello boys tennis also bested Quincy 4-1.

On the girls’ side, Quincy and Othello split the singles matches. The Jacks’ Natalie Thompson edged Breann Tovar 6-2, 6-3, while Othello’s Sylvia Rodriguez beat Rachel Faw 6-2, 6-2.

Othello swept the three doubles matches.

Diego Villarreal and Josh Valdez won both doubles matches for the Othello boys. Collin Freeman-Kyler Villarreal won 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 1 doubles match, clinching the Huskies’ victory.
