Early May each year the walleye bite on Potholes Reservoir begins. Our local anglers are recording record limits from Crab Creek, the west arm of the Sand Dunes (near the Big T sand dune), the Lind Coulee and some nice walleye by Goose Island.

Bass fishing has been good for largemouth in the dunes, and on the face of O’Sullivan Dam have been providing some great smallmouth action.

Soda Lake has seen more walleye limits this year since the eruption of Mt. St. Helens on May 18, 1980. Perch action at Soda Lake has been good in 40-foot-deep water.

Warden Lake has been producing trout. This year-round lake, along with Corral, Heart and Windmill lakes are good for trout. Also Corral Lake is warming up for rainbows. Corral Lake has many tagged fish with prizes for the lucky angler. If you get a tagged fish from Corral Lake call Region I Headquarters in Ephrata to earn your prize.

Potholes Reservoir is at full pool now. You can go anywhere on Potholes with caution. A new eagle’s nest has been located just west of Potholes State Park. There are burrowing owls in the Lind Coulee, so with the high water take your camera and get a picture of these owls. A great activity for Mother’s Day.

The CWFAC is continuing to build more habitat boxes. The Washington State Pond Jumperz from Mt. Vernon donated $400 to help buy components to build more of these boxes. Thank you for your support of our project. These boxes create new sanctuary for first-, second- and third-year fish to live and grow. These sanctuaries will provide recreational fishing for many years to come.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers.
