WARDEN — No one was injured after a small private plane crash landed near Warden late Tuesday night.

About 10 p.m a small private plane crash landed into a waste pond near Washington Potato, located in the 1900 block of West First Street. The pilot, identified as Larry Stevenson, 80, of College Place, Wash., was the only occupant of the plane and escaped without being injured, according to the Warden Police Department.

Stevenson reportedly took off from Walla Walla to Tonasket, but did not refuel his plane prior to returning. His plane reportedly started to run low on fuel and as a result he attempted to land at the Warden airstrip. He reportedly approached the landing strip at too fast of a speed and ended up crash landing into the waste pond

A employee at Washington Potato notified authorities and the WPD and Grant County Fire District No. 4 responded to the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
