OTHELLO — The Lady Huskie softball players did not disappoint the Othello fans expecting to see some fireworks when the visiting Quincy Jacks took the field against Othello at Huskie Field Saturday. The Huskies blasted the Jacks 23-0 and 17-0 to sweep the double header and remain tied with Selah with one loss in the CWAC league.

"We are working extra hard this year on hitting," Huskie coach Rudy Ochoa said. "We are concentrating a lot on our hitting as our fielding is coming along." Madison Martinez blasted three home runs in the opening game to lead a 12 hit Othello offense that put up 23 runs.

Quincy's Alexis Ramirez broke up Madison Martinez's no-hit attempt with a double in the first inning but that was the only hit Martinez gave up while striking out eight batters.

Othello continued their hot hitting in the first inning of the second game. Kirsten Quigley hit a lead-off double, Lidi DeLeon singled, Nikki Martinez walked, Mariah DeLeon singled, Audisey Sauced walked, Jackie Garza singled and Quigley doubled again as the Huskies scored seven runs in the inning.

Audisey Sauceda hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Nikki Martinez belted a solo shot in the fourth inning as Othello exploded for 17 runs on 12 hits to win the nightcap 17-0.

Nikki Martinez struck out eight while giving up just one hit, again to Quincy's Ramirez in the first inning.

"Nikki did a really good job on her change ups," Ochoa said.

Othello (13-1) is at Toppenish (0-14) Thursday and at Prosser (5-9) May 10.

Quincy came to Othello with a three game winning streak recording victories over Prosser and Toppenish. The losses drop the Jacks to 3-11, two games away from the sixth place Prosser Mustangs who with five wins currently hold the sixth and final berth into the CWAC district softball tournament. Quincy should continue to hold hope as the Jacks host Grandview (1-10) on Saturday and travel to Wapato (4-8) on May 12.
