Royal High School students of month announced

ROYAL CITY — Angelita Palacios, Noelia Guerrero, Julissa Coyazo Gutierrez and Carson Gilbert were named Royal High students of the month for February.

The students were on a list of nominations made by counselor Jennifer McCoy. They were voted on by the educational staff.

Angelita was nominated for freshman of the month for being a hard worker, diligent and caring. She is the daughter of Andrea Castañeda.

Angelita’s favorite movie is “The Maze Runner” and, on TV, she likes “Finding Carter.” She likes to listen to “Can’t Keep My Hands to Myself,” and she likes to eat tamales.

Noelia was nominated for sophomore of the month because of great academic effort and excellent performance. Her parents are Noe and Alondra Guerrero.

Noelia’s favorite movie is “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.” On television she likes “Gravity Falls,” and she enjoys eating tacos de adobada.

Noelia’s favorite song is “Pillow Talk,” and her favorite activity is going out with friends.

“Get up and finish what you started,” is her favorite quote, and she advises, “Do not procrastinate.”

Noelia’s inspiration is her oldest cousin Edith, who told her to follow her dreams.

Julissa was nominated for junior of the month for “always participating in class” and being “a great kid.” Her parents are Nicolas Coyazo and Lucia Gutierrez.

Julissa’s favorite movie is “White Chicks,” and she really likes the TV show “Pretty Little Liars.” She loves to eat chiles rellenos.

Julissa enjoys participating in sports, and she likes to say: “Fries before guys.”

Carson’s attributes for nomination as senior of the month were lengthy. McCoy wrote: “Integrity, respectful, diligent in the pursuit of knowledge, strives for excellence in school, sports and life.”

The son of Kyle and Tyree Gilbert likes the movie “Mission Impossible IV.” His favorite TV show is “Full House,” and he loves tacos of carne asada.

Carson is a well recognized member of the football, basketball and baseball teams. Naturally, his favorite activity is sports.

Carson’s favorite quote is: “Don’t do anything that would embarrass you, your town or your family.”

Carson gets his inspiration from coach Jeremy Scroggins because of his hard work, respect, passion, punctuality, dedication and leadership.

Carson’s advice: “Always give your full effort, have a positive attitude, respect yourself, your peers and your elders. Keep a smile on your face.”
