Power lifting coach: grateful for the volunteers

| March 20, 2016 6:00 AM

Without all of the help from the many volunteers last weekend, we would not have been able to host the successful power lifting meet we had at the high school.

I want to thank the many students I have who helped set up and put the weight room back together. It is not a couple of hours situation.

Thanks to former students and lifters for coming and being loaders and spotters. There is also a group of power lifters from Eastern Washington University who came down to be judges the past two years.

Again, without them, this would not happen. This year 12 of them made the trip down to make the meet a great success.

Another person who has been a great help these last two years has been Paul Mills, one of our grounds keepers. He helps with the set-up and is there supporting each of our lifters throughout the meet.

Another group that works at the meet are the table girls and boys that keep things running smoothly at each of the lifting stations. Great job.

I make sure that we have a great lunch for our volunteers/helpers, and there is no one better to head that up than Karen Lasen. She had a couple of helpers this year, Mrs. Follett, Alejandra Banda and Mrs. Banda, who provided a great taco bar with dessert.

Also, Mr. Follett for taking care of the registration. We had a total of 88 lifters this year, up from 62 last year.

Josie Cera for doing admission and Randy Miller and the freshman class for doing concessions.

Thank you all for your support of the Royal lifters and visiting schools. Without you, it doesn’t happen.

The schools that attended this year were: North Beach HS from Ocean Shores, Northwest Christian HS from Lacey, Omak HS from Omak, White River HS from Buckley, Desert Oasis HS from Othello, Hazen HS from Renton, Montesano HS from Montesano, Black Hills HS from Olympia, Snohomish HS from Snohomish.

Royal lifters have represented Royal High School and our community very well. Keep it up!
