Royal High School names January Students of Month

ROYAL CITY — Freshman Elvira Rojas, sophomore Sariah Hebdon, junior Fernando Rodriguez and senior Cynthia Rodriguez were named January students of the month at Royal High School.

The nominations were made by school counselor Jennifer McCoy. Teachers voted off of her nomination list.

Elvira was nominated for “academic improvement and leadership.” Sariah was nominated for “academic improvement and great role model.”

Fernando’s nomination came from “good attitude, driven, community involvement.” And Cynthia made the list for “trustworthy, helpful, hardworking, excels.”

Elvira’s parents are Lorenzo Rojas and Herlinda Areate. Her favorite food is tamales. She enjoys watching “The Fault in Our Stars” and “The Vampire Diaries” and likes the song “Hello” by Adele.

Elvira likes to pass the time playing Uno with her family and spending time with her nephew. “Always think positive and never think negative,” is her advice.

Elvira is inspired by her father “because he has been working for the family.” Her favorite quote is: “You just have to live your life, not caring what they think, and shake off the drama and prove to them that you’re better than they think you are.”

Sariah is the daughter of Keith and Aurora Hebdon. She likes to watch “Criminal Minds” and loves to eat donuts. He favorite song is “Cough Syrup” by Young the Giant.

Sariah’s favorite quote is: “Take criticism, smash it into dust, add color and use it to paint breathtaking images of unicorns frolicking through endless fields of greatness.”

Fernando is the son of Jesus Rodriguez. You may find him eating pizza and buffalo wings at the same time.

Fernando’s favorite movie is “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.” He likes to pass the time drawing or playing video games.

Cynthia is the daughter of Martin and Josefina Rodriguez. She enjoys “She’s the Man” and “Criminal Minds” and loves to eat tacos. She likes to listen to “Uncover” by Zara Larrson and enjoys soccer.

“My parents inspire me because they work hard to support their family,” she said.
